"Remember this, for it is as true as it gets: Your body is not a lemon. You are not a machine. The Creator is not a careless mechanic. Human female bodies have the same potential to give birth as well as aardvarks, lions, rhinoceri, elephants, moose and water buffalo. Even if it has not been your habit throughout your life so far, I recommend that you learn to think positively about your body." ~ Ina May Gaskin

What is a DOULA?

The word "doula" actually comes from the ancient Greek word which means "a woman who serves". So this is what we, as Doulas do. We serve by meeting the needs of the pregnant, laboring or postpartum woman and her family. "The Doula recognizes birth as a key life experience that the mother will remember for the rest of her life."

A misconception has set in about what exactly a DOULA is:  A Doula is not a Midwife, and does not provide any type of medical care. Nor does the Doula take the place of the spouse or birth partner; but in fact, works together to make up a labor support team! Doulas do not judge you for decisions you make; but respects & supports your choice. They do not change shifts but provide continuous support during your entire labor.

A Birth Doula will provide educational and informational support during the last trimester of pregnancy. Meeting several times with the expected mother before labor begins to set up a relationship and spirit of trust. During labor the Birth Doula will provide continuous support to the laboring mother. Although Doulas do not provide any sort of medical care, they are very knowledgeable in many aspects of labor & delivery. They can help their clients gain a better understanding of procedures and possible complications during late pregnancy & labor and delivery. Doulas have the ability to provide comfort and pain relief technics. A Birth Doula may also be an advocate for the mother. The Doulas goal is to help the mother experience a positive and safe birth.

Evidence Based Care: "When continuous labor support was provided by a Birth Doula women experienced: 31% decreased use of Pitocin. 28% decrease for the risk of C-section. 12% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth. 34% decrease in risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience."

The Postpartum Doula will provide support and help during the first few weeks after birth. Encouraging breastfeeding by giving information and tips. This Doula will also meet the simplest of needs: washing dishes, folding laundry, holding the baby while mom showers or takes a nap, sitting and visiting, even bringing a meal to the family, are just some of the tasks of the Postpartum Doula. This Doula also watches for signs of postpartum depression.

PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION! What did you say??!!

For thousands of years many cultures have upheld the value of the placenta for healing during the postpartum period. The placenta contains a massive amount of crucial hormones & iron that leave our bodies once the placenta is born. Humans are one of the few land mammals that do not regularly eat their placentas. Consuming the placenta in any form can help new mothers maintain their hormone & iron levels in the few weeks after birth, which can speed healing & help curb fatigue & the baby blues. Encapsulated placenta has been medically proven to increase a breastfeeding mother's milk supply.

Each woman's placenta contains her own natural hormones & was created and designed specifically for that woman (& baby). Therefore Placenta Encapsulation can be used especially for that woman to rebalance her body after birth.

Is it safe? Each Placenta Encapsulation Specialist certified with Intuitive Childbirth has gone through "comprehensive training with a strong focus on health & safety, along with regulations and legalities: as well as procedures & processes" ~Intuitive Childbirth.

The DIVA Blend BATH HERBS

Why herbs for postpartum healing? Let's face it, having a baby is hard work! Our bodies go through such a traumatic change. The hours and days following birth may be challenging! It's very important to take extra care of your body as you care for and bond with your newborn. Postpartum "DIVA Blend Bath Herbs" contain organic herbs & natural Sea Salt that can help your body recover from the aches, pains & discomfort that can occur after your baby is born. And because birth can also be traumatic for your baby "DIVA Blend Bath Herbs" can help your newborn relax, prevent infection, and help dry your baby's cord stump.

Testimonials:

"Since the beginning of time women have been supporting women during pregnancy and childbirth. Women have been helping, guiding, supporting, teaching, role modeling, nurturing and assisting them transition into becoming mothers. and the woman-to-woman support was before, during and after childbirth. It is a phenomenon that has all but disappeared in today's world. this is where the DOULA re-enters; she provides the wrap-around care just like her ancient sisters did" -Heart & Hands Doula Services
